Prodigal Son's Older Brother (half way done) [24 May, 2012]
We can't be too harsh on him, because he really had worked hard for his Dad all those years, and he will still recieve his half of the inheritance for that. But, can learn from him that it's okay to watch others get unexpected blessings.
Elder Holland, paraphrasing another parable, asked in the Lord's stead, "Why should you be jealous because I choose to be kind?"
Angelic Encouragement (as done as it's gonna get)
This one's to show the idea of heavenly help. The man's eyes are uplifted, but not able to see the messenger who is boosting him up. The man has taken some hard hits, but still has a good grip on his sword, and his shield (the faint oval on the ground in front of him) is in reach. All he needs is some grit, and he still stands a chance in the fight.
I borrowed an idea from a painter I admire for this sketch: Walter Rane. His angels usually are not standing straight, but in motion and reaching a hand towards earth. Like this. I like the idea, it makes it more like the messengers have traveled from a different realm to bring their messages.
