There were a few missionaries in an ancient land who wanted to convert the people there to believe in Jesus Christ. The people of that country were hostile to the country that the missionaries were from, but the Lord whispered a comforting message to these men that echoed in my mind when I read it.
And the Lord said unto them also: Go forth among the Lamanites, thy brethren, and establish my word; yet ye shall be patient in long-suffering and afflictions, that ye may show forth good examples unto them in me, and I will make an instrument of thee in my hands unto the salvation of many souls. Alma 17:11I can preach the gospel just by setting an example of how a person who has faith in Jesus should act. The Lord is all-powerful, and can use me as an "instrument" to help other people even in times when I don't know I'm helping anyone at all. So I don't have to be discouraged!
No matter how insignificant you feel, all that you have to do to make a difference is do your best. People can see it, and it will leave an impression. That is what I aspire to be. If you do too, I recommend that you visit "Missionary Work", which will help us to see what we have in common.
I have had several experiences where people have know that I am LDS, or they have figured it out, because of my behavior. One was when I was 19 and on vacation in Spain with a friend. After a few days a group of Welsh youth came up to us and asked us to join them. During our conversation one of them said, "we have been discussing what makes you so different from a lot of the other youth vacationing here (drinking, immoral behavior and dress, etc.) and we have concluded that you are Mormon." It felt great to confirm their conclusion:-)
